I started with the fifth doctor back in 1990, when I was 14, on local PBS stations back home. He was strictly hands off and the show was sci-fi, not soap opera. I also liked Four, but didnt care for 6 or 7, or and of the ones before Four.

I was 20 when the movie came out in 96, and i watched it then, felt offended and disgusted at the snogging to a fireworks background. The movie was rubbish. I did keep up with 8Doc PDAs for a while, til i read Banquo Legacy, and i never picked up another 8th Doc adventure again. I decided to stick with what i knew, Five (and Four to some extent).

I've grown to like Tom Baker's era, grown to like some Pertwee's era, love Five's era. The rest is not my style.

When the new series came out, i watched every episode as it aired in the new series as I was in this country now, and getting to watch it on tv. My baby girl watched it with me at the time. But to be honest, after he regenerated, i lost a lot of interest. After he kissed her and regenerated, i really started to lose interest. Before then, Rose used to question the Doctor. After they kissed / he regenerated, all she was was a teenager with a massive crush on a person who couldnt possibly love her back (not with any sane reckoning, if so, then he loved Turlough and Adric and Leela and all of them!!), and that's NOT what i want to watch on tv.

I dont want to watch the life and times of Jackie Tyler, or The Tyler Family Saga on tv. If i wanted that, I'd watch Corrie or Eastenders.

I'm watching for the Time Lord, not for his companions. Not for romance. Not for hand holding or kissing.

So, if they go there with Martha, I will quit the new show. I want scifi, not romance. There's plenty of romance elsewhere, and the distinct lack of romance / not understanding human emotion is what made him a different kind of tv hero. Once they dull the lines and make him 'love' someone, they've ruined what made him different, and they'll lose my support, that's for certain.

I feel very strongly about it, having watched the old show for 17 years, long before the new show came out. I know new tv audience, new generation, have to cater to a new audience demographic and all that, but i dont think they're being true to the old series, and if they're not going to do that, then they need to change the name of the show. Because as it is, series 2 most certainly ISNT 'Doctor Who' as I knew it and loved it, and I suspect series 3 wont be either.
