So i watched some more NCIS. Poor Gibbs, all blowed up. All memory lossed etc.
I felt especially heart-string tugged by their treatment of the events surrounding 9/11. Being an American, those events that day mean something to me that no one UK born and raised would understand.
Patriotism is taught from early days in the USA, and that kind of patriotism, that feeling of belonging to something bigger, is largely lost over here - the Brits have nothing that compares to the American flag, or the feelings that go with being American. Its very difficult to put into words, but its definitely a feeling of being part of something incredibly special and wonderful.
Sadly, pumpkin will have nothing like that in her life, unless I teach it to her / go out of my way to create it for her. So i will have to teach her 'Its a grand old flag' and 'America the beautiful' and the 50 states in alphabetical order and the Preamble to the constitution (We the People) etc, and hope that she understands patriotism the way I do, since there's nothing to compare to it over here.
And start having barbeques on the 4th of July, for her sake.
Oh, and the episodes were good too. Heh.
