So i watched some more NCIS. Poor Gibbs, all blowed up. All memory lossed etc.
I felt especially heart-string tugged by their treatment of the events surrounding 9/11. Being an American, those events that day mean something to me that no one UK born and raised would understand.
Patriotism is taught from early days in the USA, and that kind of patriotism, that feeling of belonging to something bigger, is largely lost over here - the Brits have nothing that compares to the American flag, or the feelings that go with being American. Its very difficult to put into words, but its definitely a feeling of being part of something incredibly special and wonderful.
Sadly, pumpkin will have nothing like that in her life, unless I teach it to her / go out of my way to create it for her. So i will have to teach her 'Its a grand old flag' and 'America the beautiful' and the 50 states in alphabetical order and the Preamble to the constitution (We the People) etc, and hope that she understands patriotism the way I do, since there's nothing to compare to it over here.
And start having barbeques on the 4th of July, for her sake.
Oh, and the episodes were good too. Heh.

I personally think the strength of American patriotism is based on your mongrel roots and snazzy rebelling new country formation. Us UK-folk (at least the English part) have been muddling along being much the same since around 1066 and we're all too used to it to get excited, except for certain segments of the population around big sporting events. Someone here should start up a competition to name the counties in alphabetical order.

Yes, it is. And that is something that pumpkin will not understand, and could never understand growing up here, land of the football match and the friday night pub quiz, unless I teach it to her.
And they killed Kate, there's a new member of the team named Ziva, and then poor Jethro was blowed up on a ship, and then he retired (but they dragged him back). The only Ducky abuse I know of us Ep 2x13, which is called Meat Puzzle.
Cor, i think i need a Ducky icon.
