Hehehehe. I uh... didn't want to say anything for fear for being considered a very, very, very strange person. I'm not the only one who thinks this to be true!
You *need* to see Troughton in 'The Box of Delights', one of the best series ever made for telly, and the ultimate Christmas programme! It's a whole different side to him as an actor (he plays an aging Punch and Judy man with mystical powers), but he's absolutely amazing, as well as endearing. Although the special effects are a bit dated, the acting and dramatisation of the book are so well done that you never even notice. I can't wait for Christmas so I can watch it again; it's become an annual event for me. :)
The more i see of him, the more i feel like he's a cuddly uncle type, who you can travel with and be safe.
PD/ fifth era, the more i see, the more i realise how violent and dangerous it all is. PD might make a cute doc, but the Fifth is a flawed individual, and traveling with him is dangerous stuff. He just might get you killed, and he wont go back for you :/
The more i see of him, the more i feel like he's a cuddly uncle type, who you can travel with and be safe. There's a lot of time-travelling to be done in 'The Box of Delights', and although Troughton's character isn't always present, he is definitely the safe, protective, uncle type. :)
PD's era is extremely dark, but I think his boyish charm and good looks distract people from the prevailing dark undercurrent. His Dalek ep had the highest body count of the classic series, and all the way through there is a lot of very deliberate darkness which almost predicts some of the ninth doctor's behaviour.
I totally see what you're saying, and yes, the Fifth almost has his PTSD undercurrents like the Ninth does... falling off a radio tower like that, dying like that, etc. Fifth's personality is unstable and his era is violent and disturbing. And the Res of Daleks episode, my favourite for one, single, ahem reason, is the most violent ever, I think.
God i love Doctor Who. :) There's always something to think about, something to analyse, something to write about.
I've been a who fan for longer than i havent been (16 years and counting) and I've not seen much First or Second eras... PBS never could afford them / didnt bother, so i usually got to see from third onwards.
I'm learning about Two and loving it more and more with each arc i see.
I might even try some 1 on for size.
8 doesnt do anything for me, i'm afraid, not in his tv movie or his books or audios. Meh.
I love the rest though, even 6 is growing on me. Eek, i just admitted to that.

Hehehehe. I know what you mean. When I first started watching Sixth Doctor arcs I just hated him. I've been watching more and more of Sixth, and I'm really starting to like him. No where as near as much as I like Third or Fourth or Second or Fifth, but I do kind of like him.

The TV movie wasn't all that bad... I just... *shrug* I'm with you there. I don't really care for him. I haven't read any books or listened to any audios yet...
I hated 6 because he was so different from 5, and because he *wasnt* 5 ... same reason a lot of ppl hated 5, because he wasnt 4.
The tv movie just felt so.. off. Kissing to a backdrop of fireworks is where I draw the line, sorry folks. Its too Americanised, too hollywood for me. Ick.
I had about ten of his novels, they really didnt do anything for me, or Fitz or Sam. Thats where i dropped him, so i dont know anything about Compassion or Anji or C'rizz from any further books or any audios. After reading Banquo Legacy and feeling sick to my stomach, I decide to drop the 8th Doctor's books from then on.

I love that each Doctor was drastically different from all the others. Second was sort of awkward and slightly goofy, Third was seriously a hard-core ass kicking machine, and Fourth was just... very, very eccentric and goofy.
I love how they were all different.

I hate it when they try to Americanize things... It's just... ugh.
I'm finding that some of my initial misgivings about them are just that, MIS-givings. I may have judged some wrongly or unfairly, I am finding out new things about their arcs by seeing them through older eyes, and finding that I love them all (mostly) in a different way.
Yeah, the second Doctor is cute in a cheek-pinching way. The Six is my favorite, partially because Colin is just a big damn hottie. The First is a close second and he's just so damn adorable.
I never saw it about Pat before, because i never paid much attention to him / never got the chance to see much of him.
But the more i see, the more i just want to hug him.
Six still strikes me funny sometimes, and I'm still getting used to PD dying and sitting up as CB (which led to years of disliking the fella) but I've seen a few more CB eps and I'm finding I kind of like the guy. Even if he is a bit full of himself.
He *is* full of himself, lots of bluster and bravado. But (and this may be biased on my part) I think he has the biggest heart of any of them. He actually cares about people and what they are feeling and thinking.
But the more i see, the more i just want to hug him.
See, I've always liked the first doctor, but it wasn't until very recently that I began to watch his stories again. The more I see the more perfect he is. Just to let you know, the fifth *used* to be second favorite on my list of doctors. He's been replaced by the first. *loves*
Yeah, i think Six felt like utter rubbish about misjudging Lytton, and began to doubt himself over it, whereas Five wouldn't have felt as guilty and then moved on on the outside and mulled over internally for a few episodes....
Billy may have been 55 when he starred as the Doctor, but dang, he was just a little cutie. And sincere. And strong. And tender. And compassionate. And darling. And funny. And sweet. ..... Plus he was wearing that wig that made him look ten years older.
Yes, he passed the Fifth in my list. Don't get me wrong, I still love the fifth, but I just love the first that much more.

Six definitely cares about people - look how heartbroken he was about misjudging Lytton... Far more than 5 would have been...
