BF99 - Son of the Dragon

Son of the Dragon - Big Finish 99.

Holy wow. Guh. Dracula himself. Wowzers.

Peter sounds so... sarcastic, weathered, serious, weary (like he was in Caves), forceful, regretful - perfect portrayal of Audio!Five. Who is subtly, and powerfully different than TV!Five.

Erimem and Peri were actually entertaining, rather than fucking annoying as I often find them, though i can *still* hear the errors in Nicola's accent. She was well used in this one, though Caroline Morris's Erimem was sidelined, Peri positively *glittered*. I'm gobsmacked, considering I don't much care for Peri...

Gothic music, chilling storyline, spot on characterisations, just, wow. This was on par with Spare Parts, in the shivers-down-my-spine bloody good audio department.

Well done, Big Finish.

I had the same reaction, I had to keep reminding myself that this was *Peri* and one of my least favourite companions, LOL! I really thought this was a magnificent epic, and the history behind it was spot-on. :D

having an american who companion sort of says 'here is what we think all generic american mary sue girls are like' and since i was about nicola's age when i first saw her in who, i was insulted by her every time she opened her faux cake hole, kwim?

Annoyed by the fake accent, frustrated with her for being so dim, and generally wanting to take her place and show that time lord what an american girl is really like. And the misogynistic sexist twat writers a thing or two. Grr.

Can't believe anyone ever thought she was genuinely one of us yanks... On the other hand she is stunningly beautiful and just gets more gorgeous with time. I just thought i'd vent a little :)

Oh, my god...

That impalement scene, right at the beginning? Wow. I remember thinking "how do you follow that?" And then, the WHOLE THING was like that.

Brilliant. Awesome. Add your own adjective here.

And it's even more impressive when you do a bit of research on the historical facts surrounding those events, and see how seamlessly the writer slotted our heroes into recorded history. [/blown away]

Yeah, that's just how i felt. Someone did their homework, fo shizzle.

Just... wow. I can't wait to re-listen. Yes.

I've got quite a few of the Five/Peri/Erimem jobs, but not this one. Sounds like my cup-o-tea. :)

*scuttles off to order from Amazon*

I usually find Peri and Erimem quite entertaining, but that's probably because I could happily listen to Nicola Bryant reading her gorcery list. That woman's so damned sexy there ought to be a law against it! :)

Nicola has a lovely voice, but not so sure about the rubbish accent... Erimem can aggravate with all her "i'm egyptian and i don't know about english or modern society" stuff, frankly - i get tired of having things *I* already know explained to me as she learns, kwim? Still, a shockingly GOOD story, in all.

Well you're American of course, so you'll spot the "imperfections" in Peri's accent a lot more easily than me, and be more aggravated by them too. Like the way people doing crappy Scottish accents aggravates me! Grr!

And I know what you mean about Erimem needing to have things explained to her. It's always a tricky balancing act with these characters to not make them annoying. If it's well written and acted it can be cute and humorous, but it often isn't.

In this case, I'm probably just suckered in by the nice girly voices! LOL

you.. you you MAN you! ;)

Yep, i can hear every slip of the tongue she makes. ;)

Oh, i bet the crappily Scottish accents really burn you. I love Tennant's native accent for example; I've no idea why he didn't get to keep it. Guess it was too rough for the worldwide audience who may not be able to understand a gorgeous Glaswegian burr. Bummer really as its more gorgeous than that fakey Mockney affair he uses in character!
