I CANT F'ING BELIEVE I DIDNT READ THIS ENTRY BEFORE! You've got to be F-ing kidding me. Okay, sorry I'm so so HAPPY! This is awesome! But...I can't read his writing too well. What did he say in the first sentence with "US"? I can't even read it when I clicked on it bigger, for shame on me.
Omgosh..this is so awesome! Hopefully I can send that photo out?! I wonder if he'd get it?! Ahhhhh! This is so cool! Congrats girl.
Okay....I can kinda make out some of his writing. I can read some words, others I can't. Can you please translate for me?! Pleeeeease, haha. Just a brief summary, thank ye!
If you use the exact address I did, i suspect he'll get it within days. The agency people seem very nice, and were very kind when i rang them yesterday in tears to thank them for passing it on to him so quickly.
The letter says:
"Dear me
A brief thank you for your lovely letter. Some of my late US efforts were in [sic] just bin-worthy, but I have had some wonderful opportunities over the years and am grateful that you had the chance, and indeed made the effort to see them. Returning to Stratford will be a dream come true, as I last attended there in 1966.
I hope you enjoy the plays, as you say Birmingham isnt far.
Thank you so much hon! It was a struggle, but I was able to read a bit more. Writing it out helped much more though. Thanks! :) I'm still weary of overseas mail as I'm always afraid of losing my photos, but he responded in a timely manner so it's nice to know that they forward his fan mail for him asap. Perhaps I shall call them up as well and talk to them first so I can explain the photos or if I get the photo in time I will ship it off asap and then wait impatiently as usual, haha.
I think I will try to go through the clutter that is our living room and find some glossy paper so I can print off a photo of him and Lance as well, haha.
It's so exciting! He's so sweet. It's nice to know how much they care for fans. Lance is the same way. Now I just need to hunt down a working address for Lance so he can sign David's photo. :)
I dont know about USPS, but Royal Mail offers an 'international signed-for' option where a signature is obtained on the other side once its been delivered...
But its kindof cheeky to expect the agency or David to ship it back to you at great expense, other than just standard airmail prices.
Remember We're on BST, so its 8.20am right now... They'll be open in an hour or so, and they were incredibly polite to me, even with my very American accent!
And if you want it signing by post, its perhaps best to get him to sign it before he embarks on Stratford appearances in July, so now's probably a good time.
I wasnt expecting anything back at all except maybe an agency letter in response. I sure didnt expect a handwritten letter back! I am gobsmacked.
The envelope was handwritten as well, and not francked, but he put a 1st class stamp on it himself, posted from SOUTH London, whereas the address for the agency is W1S, that's as West as West London gets... he probably went into a post office or nicked a stamp off his wife to post that to me, and i couldn't be more touched.
That's better than a photo, to me, any day, that he READ my words to him, and responded to them by hand.
Ah, I'll take me signed photo any day! I enjoy hanging up an autograph photo so I may stare @ the photo and sig as long as I want. Haha. I also enjoy receiving letters as well. I only prefer to get a letter with a photo if it's a favorite and so far so good, I've received letters with a photo back from all of my favorites I have written. Except for Lance. You can always hang up your letter as well. I have in the past until I ran out of room, haha.
I doubt I will do the international signed-for thingy like you mentioned in case it looks 'cheeky', although I've sent off packages overseas before with my fingers crossed. I always throw in a couple of bucks for postage though, especially if it's going out of the country.
I shall definitely try to send it off before July. Probably in the next week or so depending on how fast the photo on Ebay arrives to me. I've been thinking of what to write this evening as I'm trying to sleep. It's been a while since I've sat down to write a fan letter, haha!
I must've been looking at something else, or just typed the wrong word, i do that sometimes. Long time readers of mine know i do that sometimes.
The address is in another entry further back in my blog. The agent's a really nice lady on the phone; i thanked her for passing the letter on to him so quickly on the phone and she was terribly polite.
Bin-worthy is a phrase i used first, in my letter to him ;)
I just died...
