When i was a child, i had the same bad habit with my nails. Of course i gave it up for years. Elijah Wood does it, too. Did you see "Lord of the Rings"? There i recognized that once. It´s just disgusting! Nothing better than nice and well-groomed hands! That´s another habit of mine to look upon someone´s hands, but it means a lot to me.
I bit mine as a kid too. My mom is like Bill, a chronic nailbiter, so i picked up the habit from her.
I quit when i was a teenager. I don't bite mine at all now, but i do tend to fiddle with them / be a little fussier than i should be.
I keep my nails shorter because they're soft and they bend/break easily. I usually clip them once they pass the end of my finger, otherwise i end up hurting myself.
