leoniedelt: dunno whose this is (sapphire and steel together)

903 words today, just now. Will probably write more before bed.

My first S&S fic, omgyay!

Did physical descriptions sort of a combination of Lumley&McCallum and Warner&Harker. Tried not to voerstate Steel's height as McCallum was only 5.8, but Warner is 6'2... Harker is blonde but nowhere as thin as Lumley, that kind of thing.

Tried to keep the dialogue as real as I know they do, serious, fast, hard dialogue...

So, who wants to be my beta? lol

And my poem about madness and fire, adapted from the one posted in my last thread? Here it is:

As i sat atop my bed

I met a man inside my head

He talked of fire and pain and death

And how they'd come and take my breath

He wasn't really in my head

I wasn't really by my bed

But there he was again today

Oh how I wish he'd go away

I hope to use that in different parts of the story. As for a title, i've yet to come up with one that's suitably spooky.
Mood:: 'accomplished' accomplished

That is one spooky rhyme :o)

And that's weird - I'd heard that as McCallum was shorter than Lumley, he had to stand on a box when they were filmed together to make it appear that he was taller, but according to IMDb, they're both 5'8"... Hm. It's still funny, anyhow.

Once my exams are over, I'm free for beta-ing :o) Never done anything that wasn't Who, but once I've listened to a few of the S&S audios I'm sure I'll be up to speed.

I'm still so thrilled that there is S&S fic being written! *dance of joy*

Thanks :) I liked the rhyme. I sort of took what was there, and put some of my own in it, and i'm happy with it.

I noticed many times Lumley was taller than McCallum - she had on heels, he didnt.

David Warner's 6.2 and I dont think Harker's anywhere near as tall as Lumley.

Yep. Its an intro, kindof, but its working. Its following my plot synopsis pretty well, i think, anyways.

Ah, the heels would make that story make sense :o) So yeah, they put him on a box *grins*

Its following my plot synopsis pretty well
And that's why I couldn't write S&S fic. I am terrible with plot. That's why I think my best stuff is drabbles and ficlets :o)

Plot isnt a problem. I get so wrapped up in plot that i get lost sometimes. Dialogue can sometimes be a problem. Active vs passive voice can be a problem - i tell instead of show sometimes. But i love twists, i easily create original sympathetic characters (that i then kill off horribly) and I dont think i have any trouble with people relating to them or them being caricatures...

you'd have to ask [livejournal.com profile] alocin42 though really, she's my usual beta and she can tell you what i get right and what i dont!

I get the opposite - dialogue runs away with me!

I'm loving your icons by the way :o)

Just a few quick caps tonight, each one needed an icon, and then Silver's face when Sapph told him he was supposed to be gambling was hysterical.

Heh, Silver's great. I really love his camp pose near the end of Assignment 3 (The Creature's Revenge) - it's crying out to be iconned :o)

And I've only just realised from your icon down there that David McCallum = that David McCallum! (shh, I'm rubbish with names of actors) I know he's in been in three million things but I mainly know him as Ducky in NCIS and the blond self-sacrificing one in The Great Escape. Aww, bless him, he's cool.

Yes, he's Ducky from NCIS - David McCallum is going to be 74 this year. Holy wowzers!

He's beautiful, just too beautiful.

*grins* I take it there's a story behind that?

Yep. :)

Something she beta'ed for me, which um.. was funny :)

And maybe we'll hear if it won the Big Finish contest, because, er, have they announced the winners yet, ffs? Last i heard, they still hadnt.

*is confused* Contest?

posted by [identity profile] leoniedelt.livejournal.com at 08:18pm on 04/05/2007
Yep, they held a contest starting 6 December, ended 31 January this year, to write an entry into a Short Trips book. 2500 words.

i think the link in my left sidebar still works...

My entries were Fivey, of course.

The way they say "any of the Big Finish companions (Erimem, Evelyn, Hex, Charley and C'rizz – but not Lucie, please)" makes me laugh. I know they're probably removing Lucie from the options because BF are doing their thing with BBC7 and whatever it is they're doing with Lucie's storyline, but it sounds like they don't like her and would prefer not to hear about her :o) I've heard that the stories with Eight and Lucie are not really up to standard (I've yet to hear them and make up my own mind) so it makes me laugh that it sounds like the BF people don't actually like her!

Should i be embarrassed that I dont even know who Lucie is? I havent been keeping up with anyone's audios but Fivey's. Probably dumb of me as I suspect Eight's are good, but i got put off Eight when i read Banquo Legacy, and i lost all interest in Fitz, Sam, have no idea who Hex or Compassion are, and just dont find myself remotely interested.

I love Paul McGann's voice though, and as a person, he's really brilliant. I'll take his Leftenant Bush to his Who any day though. :D

Nah, I didn't know what was going on when I first heard of her either. She's a companion of Eight's after he and Charley and C'rizz have gone their (as yet undefined) separate ways. (If you don't know them either, Charley's a self-styled Edwardian adventuress - who gets rather irritating after her first two series - and C'rizz is an exoskeletal reptilian species whose mental health is becoming questionable *grins*) Basically, the Charley and C'rizz storyline was a little too involved for new listeners to just casually pick up an audio and know what was going on, so BF thought this would discourage them from hopping on board. So BF collaborated with BBC7 to make some new stories, set a little way in Eight's future, that (I think) are given away free with DWM and broadcast on BBC7.
I like McGann as the Doctor (he was the best thing about the movie, really) and as an audio!Doctor he does quite well. He has over-exposition problems for the first series or so (but then that's true for most early BF Who) but that just means he gets to ramble on a bit more :o) A fair few of his stories I would call duds, though, so if you want to branch away from Fivey, I can give you informed recommendations :o)

Eight's books are weighted down by Sam. I'm thinking of asking my Who dealer to skip ahead to Fitz in the books he's lending me cos I haven't read any of him yet and I really want to. (Not all book people are bad though - I really like Benny Summerfield.) I also have no idea who Compassion is, but you cannot lump Hex in with book companions. No, no, no. I won't let you. Hex is fantastic. He's an audio companion of Seven's - a Liverpudlian nurse from 2021, says "oh my god" an awful lot at first but gets some better lines further on, and features in some of the best stories I've listened to recently.

As for other audio companions - you'll know about Erimem, but there's also Frobisher and Evelyn. Both with Six, Frobisher's a four foot penguin-shaped mesomorph (it's a shame he only has two audios, and one of them's a DWM special), and Evelyn's a history lecturer in her mid-fifties. She and Six have a wonderful dynamic. Again, I have recommendations if you want them :o)

Blimey, I've rambled on. Well, I'm quite opinionated when it comes to audios - they're a major part of fandom to me :o) *shuts up now*

Wow. while you were writing that, i was putting together a rubbish attempt at a banner.

If anyone can do better than I did, i will happily email you the originals....

I've no idea, i'm sure i'll find out when i've heard the audio - it just came out yesterday or today...

It looks dreadful. I'm hoping someone will offer to redesign it for me. Still, it is my own work, even if it looks amateurish...

It's a bit fuzzy, and looks kinda like both sides of a cd cover, but the pictures are pretty.

When I was having a quick google for fire-type nursery rhymes earlier I found a reference to the man-not-on-the-stairs original rhyme appearing in a S&S episode. Don't know if that would be problematic or not, but I like your longer and adapted version! Tis creepy.

I saw that page too, but that would be referring to the first episode, the one where the kids' parents disappear when the parents were reading nursery rhymes to the younger kid, but it wasn't that rhyme, it was Ring a ring of roses and some weird one about multiplication tables.

I need some Steel and Sapphire icons. Yes. May have to make them.

*reads through page* Assignment Four... that's 'The Man Without a Face'. It's one of the creepier ones - there are scary little children.

Do they actually recite the rhyme? I'll have to go have a listen i guess.

Can't remember, haven't seen it since last summer... I remember them skipping/playing games and singing a rhyme, could've been that one.

I've heard 'One foot up one foot down, this is the way to Londontown' a few times, but nothing about a man on a stairs... i am only a few mins into part 1 though.
