I think it must be a little of both really. I mean, Adric's the only one he let down to the point of death, and being that ill before regenerating must've affected him in a negative way.
I think both of those things must've made Six into the 'hard man' that he is.
But the more i watch post-Earthshock eps, the more PTSD I see... he really goes feel guilty, badly guilty. He is staggering around in shock from it all, and he really doesnt know how to come to terms with it or deal with it, particularly in light of Nyssa staying behind on Terminus, Tegan utterly abandoning him, and Turlough finding his place as well.
Five must feel very utterly alone by time Androzani rolls around :(
