upgrade to firefox 3 for mandriva 2008.1.  Backports rock. It doesn't seem much different, to me, than firefox 2.0.0.16. Maybe i'm missing something??

Most of my add-ons work / have new versions, which is teh good. I have my tax mix plus, and adblock plus, neither of which i could contemplate living without. And Azerty, which makes it teh pretty, too.

It does, however, need some speed tweaks. I had fasterfox for firefox 2, which doesn't work for firefox 3. Any suggestions on how to speed me fox up? This bitch is running s-l-o-w ....

Messing around with my network card (it was in b mode, i wanted full g mode, meh), i managed to mess my installation up enough to really screw myself. bcm43xx______.fw files and the wl_apsta.o file had to be cuttered up with the firmware cutter and the bcwml5.sys driver file wasn't the right one and all kind of complicated shit. Argh. So i started reinstalling today to fix stuff.

Somehow, it was placing the folders in /home/leonie on the desktop. I thought they were shortcuts. They were in fact, the actual folders.

I lost *8* years worth of email today in one shift-delete.  HAIRY BOLLOCKS. *wail*

So if i have your email address.. or make that HAD, I haven't any more. Can you email me? leoniedelt at googlemail dot com.

Also, pumpkin is apparently allergic to something at nanny's - the second time she's been there and her whole face has gotten swollen up, her eyes gotten red and watery, her nose got all snuffly, and her voice raspy. Poor little thing. Either she's allergic to nanny (oh how i wish i were!) or she's allergic to bichon frise. Probably the second one.

Mandriva 2008 has begun.

And its FAST, too. Lots faster than 2007 spring...

Firewall was a nuisance and had killed the internet for a bit, but that was just me being blind and leavings things as they were installed. Duh.

Adding urpmi sources now so i can download updates. Its pretty, yes!

I did it myself! I ripped League of Gentleman's Apocalypse all by myself!

It came about that the movie was 1hr 27 minutes long, so i couldnt use k3b to copy the DVD, because it's bigger than the standard 4.7g / 1hr20min DVD...  So i had to rip it in order to copy it for a friend.

I used MediaFork to rip it, a line command tool which was cool to use, a new experience and all that, but that only did track1 of the DVD by default as I didnt specify anything, which was the movie itself, all the chapters.

There were 15 tracks on the DVD, however, some of which were the Universal bit at the beginning, the 'dvd piracy is naughty' clip, etc.  And the easter eggs! I ripped the easter eggs! And various assorted extras, interviews, outtakes with SImon Pegg and Peter Kay, and deleted scenes. Good stuff, as good as if not better than the movie itself.

Its all in .avi format, i assume standard xvid / lame, as Linux doesnt have divx, its not a 'free' codec. Its all about 1.3g total. If anyone wants a zip and upload, lemme know. I am so dead chuffed :D

With any luck, i just snagged these David Warner movies I've not seen before:

Michael Kohlhaas, possibly in German (who cares)
Marco Polo, probably in Italian, though christ its huge, 8gb total, 4 parts!
The Fixer, ripped from cable, no idea what language
Piccolo Grande Amour, no idea what language
and Superstition, definitely in Polish.

Do i care about the language? Hell no! I've sat through Jekyll and Hyde in Italian just to see David! :) I got the gist, anyways, being fluent in spanish, though i wish i could have heard his sweet voice.

I feel dead chuffed. I did a torrentpond search for the ones i havent got (the standard sit down and go through imdb and search for every movie title i havent got/seen yet) and didnt have any luck, but this was like hitting the motherload, lol.

Now if i could just find Frankenstein, damnit... all my squeeingfangirlywetunderpants dreams would come true, yes.

What a lot of hard work. I should have followed my instincts and done a full install from scratch, but no, i chose to upgrade.

2 hours later, everything was a mess. It was booting, but not loading the new 2007.1 kernel, and it was bombing out on several things in the course of bootup, weird error messages, all sorts.

I had to format hda1 and install from scratch, which took only 30 minutes the second time! It took less than 5 minutes to get my wifi working, which is a bleedin miracle, and voila.

Lots of things are now specific to this release, so i can urpmi most everything i've ever used. Last things i have to get working are some browser plugins, re-do my bookmarks as I lost them all, finish tinkering round with thunderbird getting the junk mail controls working, and getting Azureus. And i'm done! :D

Worth it, yes. So many new customisations and the whole thing runs as smooth as a baby's arse. Wow and a half. :D

Bite me, Bill Gates.
